Located in Chaeng Watthana-Pak Kret 33, Hoi Ngae or Blood Cockle Cafe is a very unique cafe opened just to please those who love to eat blood cockles or Hoi Khraeng in Thai. The place is clean and well air-conditioned like most modern cafes, which is quite comfortable to sit and shuck open the shells. Hoi Ngae’s ingredients are delivered fresh from a farm in Khlong Khon district and diners can choose how long they want their cockles to be boiled from rare to well-done. The boiled cockles are then served with 5 different dipping sauces (original seafood or the sexy burn, the crispy peanut, the big bang with wasabi, the sab-e-ree with fermented fish, and salsa de gato or cream salad), all are made fresh daily. Their signature dish “salted cockles” is also a must. To reach the cafe, it’s easier to find Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and the cafe is on the opposite side of the street.
