Great Service, Pleasant Ambience, but Unfortunately Disappointing Food
I arrived at Pica Pica Spanish Tapas Bar at Sunway Iskandar at around 9pm for a solo dinner. The restaurant was practically empty, with only one other table occupied.
First impressions were actually quite good. Although the restaurant isn’t air-conditioned, the space was surprisingly airy and cool, making it a comfortable place to dine. The premises were also neat, tidy and clearly well-maintained.
I ordered the following dishes (prices before Eatigo’s 50% discount):
* Gambas al Ajillo – RM43
* Paella de Marisco – RM99
* Basque Cheesecake – RM22
* Coke Zero – RM7
The 50% discount applied to all the food items, excluding the Coke Zero.
Let’s start with the appetiser, Gambas al Ajillo.
This was actually quite enjoyable! The prawns were fresh and nicely prepared, although they were on the smaller side. The dish also came with three generous pieces of bread on the side, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the bread itself was rather unremarkable. Nevertheless, a decent start to the meal, and I was looking forward to what came next.
Then came the Paella de Marisco, and unfortunately, this was where everything went downhill.
At RM99 before discount, I had pretty high expectations for this dish, especially since seafood paella is such an iconic Spanish dish.
To be fair, the portion was rather generous, and the prawns were noticeably larger than those served in the appetiser. Unfortunately, that was about the only positive thing I could say.
The prawns were terribly disappointing. They didn’t taste fresh at all, and the texture was mushy. It was such a shame because fresh, succulent prawns could have made a world of difference.
The clams were equally disappointing. They had an unpleasant, overly strong taste of the sea, which left me wondering whether they had been properly cleaned or simply weren’t fresh enough. The squid, thankfully, was alright.
Overall, the entire dish was thoroughly forgettable. I genuinely struggled to finish it, and eventually decided not to. There really wasn’t much point in forcing myself to finish something I wasn’t enjoying.
It’s always sad when you look forward to a meal, only to be left feeling so disappointed.
Finally, the Basque Cheesecake.
Thankfully, the cheesecake was decent! It wasn’t particularly outstanding, but it was enjoyable enough and served as a saving grace for an otherwise disappointing dinner. At that point, I was just grateful that at least the dessert didn’t let me down. I suppose things could have been worse!
Now, credit where credit is due. The service was genuinely excellent.
The male server deserves special mention for being exceptionally friendly, attentive and prompt throughout my visit. He took the initiative to ensure that I was comfortable and having a pleasant dining experience, and his sincerity really showed.
The food was also served quite promptly, although I suspect the lack of customers at that hour probably helped.
Regardless, good service should always be acknowledged, and he certainly deserves recognition for his efforts. It’s just such a pity that the quality of the food didn’t match the standard of service.
One other thing worth mentioning: when settling the bill, I noticed an additional RM1 charge labelled for Eatigo. I was a little puzzled by this, as I wasn’t expecting such a charge, but I didn’t probe further.
My final bill came to RM99 for a three-course dinner with a drink.
At that price, I would say it’s reasonable enough, especially considering the generous portions. I’m genuinely thankful for Eatigo’s 50% discount because, without it, I would have found the meal extremely poor value for money. Paying full price for seafood of this quality would have been very difficult to justify.
Final verdict: A pleasant, comfortable restaurant with commendable service, but the food, unfortunately, fell far short of expectations.
I really wanted to enjoy my dinner here. The ambience was nice, the service was excellent, and the meal started off on a reasonably positive note. Unfortunately, the disappointing seafood paella overshadowed everything else.
Good service can make a dining experience more pleasant, but ultimately, the food still needs to deliver.
Sadly, on this occasion, it simply didn’t.

Went twice before eatigo discount. Food was good last time but now not now. Purposely booked to try on their beef steaks but was told beef out of stock that day. How disappointing! Ordered two pork steaks instead, both hard as stone.. so difficult to cut. Unlike before it was very juicy and palatable to eat.
